I like the front elevation. It has grown to a rather large house once you add in the basement and attic. It is a pretty formal, traditional plan. These tend to not be open and make it harder to use space efficiently. I agree that alignment of the axis would make the plan look better (although I doubt anyone would actually notice one way or the other in real life -it's an architecture thing)
My only real crit of the layout is the powder room and children's bathroom placement. Neither are private enough for my preference.
I do like that stairwell look (like the graves house also had) but think it will loose some without a skylight directly above. Of coarse this can become an exercise in adding one more neat feature.
I kind of liked the round window with its more post modern touch (something graves might have done) -particularly if the bathroom was not there but think most people would favor this more traditional window.
